It is an undeniable fact that English is a very important and different skill in the academic and professional world. As London Gate College, we show that we do not care to share effective and advanced learning methods that will help them improve their English.

In addition to course records and academic numbers, it was stated that daily activities such as watching movies are a great way to progress naturally and easily with sequential language features.

In the digital age, we can now easily access English movies and conversations of native English speakers. Thanks to platforms such as Youtube, Netflix, BluTV, Disney+, it is now much easier to join different movies.

In this article, we have listed 44 movies according to their genres and levels that will help you improve your English.

As London Gate College, we continue to support the development of language features to be taken to a higher level.

English Movie Recommendations for Beginners

If your English is at a beginner level, you should start with movies that include clear pronunciation and daily conversations. Here are some of these movies in 5 categories for you.

Romantic Comedy & Drama

Love Again (2023): It tells the story of the main character who is trying to cope with the death of his fiancée. It has an easy-to-follow, understandable language.

Your Place or Mine (2023): You can see an example of everyday English in the movie about two close friends who are opposites.

Always Be My Maybe (2019): A fun movie where you can hear everyday American English about child lovers finding each other again after all this time.

To All the Boys I’ve loved Before (2018-2021): An understandable language is spoken in the youth movie about the experiences of the main character who goes to high school.

Ticket to Paradise (2022): A fun romantic comedy that starts with the wedding of a divorced couple’s daughters that they do not approve of.

Adventure & Fantasy

Jungle Cruise (2021): Tells the adventures of riverboat captain Frank and scientist Lily in a simple and clear language.

Cruella (2021): Set in 1970s London, this film follows the story of the clever and creative main character Estella and her friends. It’s a fun movie where you can hear both American and British accents.

Movie Watching Tips for Beginners

  • Start by using English subtitles, and then try watching without them.
  • Pause and replay parts that you find difficult to understand
  • Take notes of new words you learn and try to use them in your own sentences.
  • Listen carefully to how characters speak — pay attention to their pronunciation and the context in which they use certain words.
  • To improve your fluency, try repeating lines after the characters, mimicking their intonation and speed.
  • Outside of movies, you can also watch interviews with the actors to hear how they speak naturally.

Intermediate Level English Movies

If your English level is at an intermediate level, you can improve yourself by watching movies with more natural and fluent dialogues.

We have listed movies that are suitable for this level, have understandable but also slightly more complex dialogues, divided into three different categories for you: Drama, Comedy & Romantic Comedy and Thriller & Mystery.
